Working the Wiz: Another Recession Challenge
I was so behind at work, I had to go in for a few hours. Since I had to sit in front a computer to monitor applications, with about three hours of down time, I watched the film adaptation of the Wiz. The deaths of Richard Pryor, Nipsey Russell, and Michael Jackson and the age of the creation may make the production a classic, but it is still not make it a good movie.

What a long and busy day. I was up and at work by 8:00 A.M. for a volunteer function, a neighbor's and co-worker's parent's funeral mass, a meeting with a community leader, a visit with a fashion-social entreprenuer, the book store, the hair salon, and a visit to my parents by 5:00. P.M. I am now exhausted and my sore throat and earache has returned. I will now nap, because this "it girl" has a birthday party and poetry reading to attend tonight! I have not been to the Avaunt Garden since it was Helios.
(No; my grammar has not gotten worse. My neighbor's father passed away and her sister is also my co-worker. )

Larger Than Life
Today, I spent the day at UT. Notice, I am not saying Austin; just UT. There is a difference. I did not get to S. Congress, Kerbey Lane, Lucy in Disguise, Mega whole Foods, Hill Country, etc... Not even a Segway.
I did have the best visits of all. I saw for the first time the Barbara Jordan statue. The schulptor really captured her essence!
I also got to visit with my mentor, who was in the early '80's, the best prof and advisor in his particular college on campus. Now, he is a graduate dean.

"You're packing a suitcase for a place none of us has been,...
The concert was awesome! I gave away my third row seat to a stranger after friends upgraded me by $500 to a VIP section inside the spaceship. I was 12 feet away from Bono; four feet when the bridge moved above our heads! This was my fourth U2 concert.
This picture is of a mask issued at the concert for the audience to wear during Walk On. Portrayed is Aung San Suu Kyi; Burma's National League for Democracy, Nobel Peace Prize winner, and political prisoner. Suu Kyi won the 1990 election, however, the ruling military junta refuses to give up their power.

Monday Meditation
In the midst of a worldIn the midst of a world marked by tragedy and beauty there must be those who bear witness against unnecessary destruction and who, with faith, stand and lead in freedom, with grace and power.
There must be those who speak honestly and do not avoid seeing what must be seen of sorrow and outrage, or tenderness, and wonder.
There must be those whose grief troubles the water while their voices sing and speak refreshed worlds.
There must be those whose exuberance rises with lovely energy that articulates earth's joys.
There must be those who are restless for respectful and loving companionship among human beings, whose presence invites people to be themselves without fear.
There must be those who gather with the congregation of remembrance and compassion draw water from old wells, and walk the simple path of love for neighbor.
And,
There must be communities of people who seek to do justice love kindness and walk humbly with God, who call on the strength of soul-force to heal, transform, and bless life.
There must be religious witness.
`Rebecca Parker

A Ten Year Old Rules My Life
Some psychologists are proponents of the belief that whatever influences a child at the age of ten will influence that child for the rest of that child's life. Maybe that's why I am partial to Elton John, Jimmy Carter, disco fashion, and Corvette Stingrays. When I was ten years old, I stopped being a tom boy for just 30 minutes each day and became couch potatoe. I'd rush home from school, complete my homework, boss the neighbor's kids, for I was the only girl on the block, then settle down for a glass of milk and 30 minutes of Barnabas Collins. There's Ann Rice's Works, True Blood, Twilight on print and on film. Now, there is Vampire Diaries and New Moon is coming soon to a theatre near you. One just cannot help being bitten by the present "vampire craze". No matter what may come, Dark Shadows is still the best! I have over 50 episodes on VHS. Here is a clip from the 1970 movie.

Something's Fishy
Lately, I have been so busy, I have not hade time to cook a meal. The only meal I have at home is dinner and that has been mostly green salads, cans of black been or tomato soup, or Smart Start. Last night I browsed around and found this recipe for baked salmon. I subsituted parsley and basil for brown sugar.
